The Moon and Pluto

A Music Movement

2nd Annual Strange Daze Music and Arts Festival

The Strange Daze Music and Arts Festival is a summer festival meant to bring together some of Atlanta's most dynamic and inspiring musicians and artists for one day of artful festivity!  The festival will be held at The Masquerade in Atlanta this year.  Last year, we had a really intense and successful event where the diverse nature of the music kept everyone on their toes and created a brotherhood of musicians rather than a clique of folks producing similar tunes.  The art really added to the essence of communicating through message, rather than sentences.  The 2nd Strange Daze Festival will take place on Saturday, August 14 and Sunday August 15, 2010.

The Moon and Pluto is dedicated to exposing the Atlanta locals to a variety of truly unique, non-compromising music and art.

We'll take applications for Strange Daze until May 2010. Information to apply is found below.

To Apply: Info for Bands

We intend to feature bands within and between a variety of genres including experimental, psychedelic, indie, folk, reggae, hip hop, punk, acoustic, electronic and progressive rock.

If you're interested in applying to be part of next summer's festival, please send the following information to themoonandpluto@gmail.com with a subject heading of "Strange Daze Request"

BANDS:
1. Band website - I need somewhere to go listen to your music
2. If your website doesn't include a bio, please send one in the email
3. Not necessary, but helpful, would be a line or two explaining why you want to play at Strange Daze

Expectations of the bands that are chosen:

1. There are many promotional avenues that will be available through this festival.  If you are put on the festival, please understand that it is expected that you help promote it.  Postcards and flyers will be supplied to you, all you need to do is help spread the word and distribute the material at your shows, around your neighborhood, at your local bookstore, music store, or coffee shop. I think you get the idea!

2. If chosen, I will need you to send me one song, so that I can upload it to the Strange Daze Music and Arts Festival player.  This embeddable music player will be used for promotional purposes and to get people to hear you guys all over the internet.

3. There may be radio promotion involved. You are not expected to do this, but the bands that are most involved and truly in tune with the concept behind the festival will be considered before others to take part in this type of promotion.

4. If you have a CD, Wax n Facts in Little 5 Points will take it and keep it on a countertop display throughout the weeks before the festival.  This is a great opportunity to get your music noticed and heard.  You would be expected to let me know of your interest in this perk, so that I can follow through with the arrangements. (note: you do not have to have a CD recorded in order to play the festival)

5. Performer Magazine, The Silver Tongue Music News, Target Audience Magazine, BeAtlanta, and MadeLoud.com are official sponsors of Strange Daze 2010 and may be offering bands interviews, reviews, and featured artist coverage.

6. There are no contracts or required number of tickets to sell. This festival is meant to feel good and we hope the bands WANT to be there and bring their peeps and celebrate the coming together of a counter-culture defined by creative pursuits.

To Apply: Info for Artists

We'd like between 10-20 artists, depending on the amount of work they bring, since space is limited.  We accept any type of paintings, jewelry, wood carvings, clothing, photography, ceramics, sculpture, drawings, cartoon art.

Artists are welcome to bring as much or as little of their work as they like.  It is entirely up to you what you want to charge our guests for your artwork, and The Moon and Pluto does not take any percentage of what you sell. We also do not charge the artists a set-up fee.

The tables provided are about 2.5' wide and 4' long.  If you have your own table, you are welcome to bring it.
